THE BEACHES

OF ASTYPALAIA

Astypalaia has numerous beaches that embrace the blue Aegean with their beauty. From small picturesque sandy beaches to long beaches with fine pebbles, each offers a unique experience. Most of them are not accessible by vehicle, creating a feeling of solitude and peace, ideal for those looking for complete relaxation.

The best beaches

On the Outer Island of Astypalaia, the most popular beaches offer a unique experience. Vatses, with its amazing fine sand and picturesque tamarisk trees, is one of the top destinations, with a beach bar offering endless entertainment. Kaminakia, now accessible via an asphalt road, also has a restaurant and plenty of tamarisk trees for shade. Agios Ioannis beach, accessible only by footpath, is one of the most beautiful and deserted, while the northwest coast offers small pebbly beaches accessible only from the sea. The largest of them, Ammouda beach, offers an idyllic atmosphere, although access via a dirt road is very difficult.

At the northwestern edge of Astypalaia stretches the impressive bay of Panormos, hosting the long beach with white pebbles and the amazing horizon. Valani and Lantes beaches also offer unique landscapes, while the accessible dirt road makes the area accessible even for visitors. Livadi, accessible only by footpath and boat, offers tranquility and beauty, while Pachia Ammos, with its long sandy beach, offers a unique experience, although the north can bring big waves. In Livadi, the abundance of cafes, bars and restaurants next to the beach offer comfort and entertainment. Agios Konstantinos beach, isolated and picturesque, offers a quiet atmosphere and a wonderful view towards the castle of Chora. North of Chora, the beaches are full of beauty, with the 3rd Landa beach standing out for its unique camping.

In Mesa Nissi, the eastern part of Astypalaia, you will discover a multitude of beautiful beaches. When passing through the narrow neck that joins the two parts of the island, you come across the double sandy beach of Stenos, with a beach bar and a few tamarisk trees for shade. The Plakes offer a quiet experience with white pebbles, accessible only by footpath. The beaches at Maltezana and Schinontas cater mainly to guests of the settlements and surrounding hotels, also providing good food and drink options. In Agrilidi Bay, a quiet beach with smooth pebbles and tamarisk trees is waiting to be discovered. There are no notable beaches in Vlychadia Cove and Vathi Cove, but in Vai Cove you will find the beautiful Vai Beach and the spectacular Chrysi Ammos Beach, which offers no shade or infrastructure, so you need to be prepared.
